2. 2014 Player Essentials Kit

This is what I started with. It’s a collection of the core most important books for getting started with DnD 5e 2014. This was my first DnD purchase, and really helped me understand what I was getting into as a new DnD player. I was a complete beginner trying to establish a group of other beginners, and these books were invaluable resources.

The Player’s Handbook is a must-read for new players, and is a tool I still reference before, and occasionally during, sessions years later. The Dungeon Master’s Guide is a great intro into the responsibilities of DM, though I’ve heard the 2024 version is more digestible. Finally, the Monster Manual is exactly what it sounds like, and provides you with the stat blocks of all the standard monsters you or your players are likely to encounter.

3. Dungeons & Dragons Spellbook Cards

While it looks like many of these card sets are currently on sale, the Creature & NPC Cards are the most appealing to me. These cards act as an easy quick reference for players or DMs in the heat of the moment. As DM, you can pre-select the relevant cards for a given session and have them ready-to-go for players (or yourself) when encountering one these NPCs or creatures.

On the other hand, you could build your own deck of potential random encounters to make your player’s journey as much a surprise to you as it is to them. There are many ways to make use of these cards, which is why it’s my 3rd choice for best deal for DnD players on this Prime day.
